It's a tough pill to swallow for the Australian team. After an unexpected stumble against Zimbabwe, they desperately needed a win to control their own destiny in the T20 World Cup. Despite the pitch showing signs of slowing down, which often makes chases tricky, Sri Lanka navigated the target with surprising ease. It was a stark reminder of how crucial those big names are.
And this is the part most people miss: the Sri Lankan duo of Nissanka and Kusal Mendis absolutely seized the opportunity. With wicketkeeper Mendis providing rock-solid support with a calm and collected 51 runs off 38 balls, Nissanka was the star of the show. He reached his magnificent century in just 52 deliveries, an innings that beautifully blended raw power with elegant stroke play, ultimately guiding his team to victory.
